Nondegree students
Join ASU classes as a nondegree student
If you’re ready to enroll in online courses as a nondegree-seeking student, take a moment to learn more about the admission requirements and application process. ASU Online welcomes various types of nondegree students, including:
- Undergraduate or graduate students, who want to take individual courses instead of pursuing a full degree program.
- Visiting university students, who are enrolled in an undergraduate program at another college or university.
If you would like to enroll in self-paced courses without the need for prerequisites or an application, ASU also welcomes:
- CareerCatalyst students, who want to acquire or enhance high-demand, job-relevant skills. CareerCatalyst students do not earn college credit.
What is a nondegree student?
A nondegree student takes individual courses without pursuing a full degree program at ASU. Nondegree students can study at the undergraduate or graduate level.
As a nondegree student, you’re limited in the number of credit hours you can take a semester. Additionally, you may only apply 12 to 15 credit hours, completed in a nondegree status, to an academic program if you choose to pursue a degree in the future. However, be sure to check your intended program, as there may be some exceptions.
Why study at ASU as a nondegree student
As a nondegree student, you’re part of a unique group of students who have varying reasons for taking accredited ASU Online courses. You might not have the time to commit to a full degree program, or you might need to take a required course that’s not readily available at your institution. If you’re an admitted ASU Online nondegree student, you’ll earn credit for the courses you take, and they’ll be listed on an official ASU transcript with grades earned.
ASU also offers online continuing education courses through CareerCatalyst focused on teaching in-demand job skills. If you’re a CareerCatalyst student, you will not earn college credit, but you may be eligible for a certificate or digital badge.
Explore the nondegree student experience
We have a streamlined application process for visiting university students. Nondegree undergraduate and graduate students must complete an application, pay the application fee and submit transcripts, if applicable. Application is not required for students continuing their education through CareerCatalyst.
Can nondegree students get financial aid?
Unfortunately, nondegree students are not eligible for financial aid at ASU. You may be able to find scholarships to assist with course funds.
